The Queensland Government has invested $940,000 to explore the return of wool scouring to Blackall in Western Queensland to safeguard the Australian wool industry and boost regional economies.
Funding will support Queensland Wool Processors Pty Ltd (QWool) to complete a full feasibility study into re-establishing wool scouring in Blackall.
Benefits to Queenslanders include:
- stronger biosecurity and trade resilience by reducing dependence on greasy wool exports.
- new jobs and local investment in Western Queensland, contributing to regional prosperity.
- progress towards the Government’s goal of growing Queensland’s primary production output to $30 billion by 2030.
- Reinvigoration of the wool industry through engagement with graziers and showcasing the comparative value of sheep and wool relative to cattle.
