Delivering the Mackay Base Hospital expansion

Mackay hospital render

Fast-growing communities in Mackay and surrounding areas will soon have access to greater healthcare services thanks to an expansion of Mackay Base Hospital.

The Queensland Government is committing $18.5 billion under its Hospital Rescue Plan to deliver a suite of new and upgraded hospitals, which includes Mackay Base Hospital.

Once complete, the Mackay Base Hospital Expansion project will deliver at least 128 new overnight beds, improved surgical, maternity, neonatal and paediatric services, and additional car parking spaces to be constructed for patients, carers, visitors and staff.

The hospital expansion site will include a women’s health unit with birth suites and a maternity ward, special care nursery, child and adolescent unit, medical wards and a Ronald McDonald family room.

The expanded Mackay Base Hospital will also feature a new helipad to help transport critically ill patients safely and quickly.

The multi-story car park and helipad will increase onsite hospital parking by 572 spaces to help improve access for staff, patients and visitors.
