Far North Queensland is set to benefit from a major expansion of Cairns Hospital to deliver more beds to meet growing demand.
When it opens in 2027, the expanded hospital will provide 64 new overnight beds, which includes a new 32-bed general medical ward and a new 32-bed orthopaedic ward.
The Cairns Hospital expansion will feature the additional beds, clinical spaces and a broader range of services to support the growing demand for healthcare across the Far North Queensland community.
The investment follows the opening of Cairns Hospital’s new mental health unit that features 53 beds, 10 of which are dedicated to intensive care.
